The online sport management master’s program offers optional specializations and certificates that support emerging trends, meet sport industry demand, and provide students with the opportunity to customize their education to match their interests and career goals.
The courses required for these four specializations can be used to satisfy all or a portion of the program’s required elective credits. If these pre-designed specializations do not fit with a student’s sport management career aspirations, students can build their own academic experiences by choosing five courses (15 credits) from our extensive elective options. This flexibility empowers our students to seamlessly blend their unique interests and strengths with a solid foundation in sport management. This tailored approach not only enhances expertise but also equips students to make substantial contributions to the constantly evolving sports industry.
The specializations students can choose from are:
The Athlete Development specialization is ideal for students interested in working directly with athletes to help them develop as a whole person in the context of an athletic career. This emerging area of expertise has tremendous potential to benefit both athletes and those who want to help them with matters including financial literacy, professionalism and behavior, and career development. The specialization also gives students the opportunity to meet the academic requirements for certification through the Professional Association of Athlete Development Specialists (PAADS).
The High Performance Coaching specialization is ideal for students interested in learning how to enhance athletic performance by improving understanding and application of cutting-edge science from the fields of coaching, kinesiology, physiology, and psychology. Paired with the core coursework in sport management, this unique specialized path helps prepare coaches and athletic administrators to achieve optimal performance in the administrative and athletic domains of their sport organizations. HPC offers students an unmatched opportunity to develop expertise through coursework offered by UF’s nationally ranked departments of both Sport Management and Applied Physiology & Kinesiology.
The Sport Law specialization is ideal for students who want to learn more about the laws that govern numerous aspects of the sport industry. Taught by faculty in UF’s esteemed Levin College of Law, courses in this specialization further students’ understanding of legal principles that many sport management professionals encounter in their work. This specialization is beneficial to practicing or aspiring lawyers and collegiate compliance officers whose current work or future career paths may require advanced knowledge of or familiarity with sport law.
The Director of Racquet Sports specialization is perfect for tennis professionals who want to transition into leadership positions. Whether managing your own tennis business or managing a country club or league, this concentration prepares students for the business that encapsulates the racquet sports industry. Learn valuable sport management techniques, program development, the basics of sport marketing, budgeting and human relations, and more. Completion of this specialization also prepares students to become a certified tennis professional with USPTA, accredited by USTA and PTR.
